How many students are in a team?

There are four students in a team.

Are you allowed to substitute members during the heat?

There are no substitutions allowed. The four team members that take part in the heat are the same team members that go to the Final if the team wins.

When does a team need to be finalised?

The team can be finalised up to the day on the heat, but the team coach will need to ensure that the correct names of the team is on the registration form that is submitted on the day.

What ages is Kids’ Lit Quiz Australia for?

Kids’ Lit Quiz is for students aged between 10 years and 13 years. Students under 10 could take part if they a prolific readers but students must be under 14 years as of the 1st July in the year of the competition.

Does Kids’ Lit Quiz Australia have a reading list?

There is  no reading list as students are encouraged to read widely and read for pleasure. They are also encouraged to work as a team and share and combine their knowledge.

Do all heats have the same questions?

Each heat has a unique set of questions although at times there might be some overlap.

How many rounds and questions are there in each heat?

Each heat has ten rounds with ten questions.

There are some additional questions asked throughout the heat, but these questions are not part of the scoring. 

How do the students answer the questions in the heat?

One student team member writes the answers. Most of the answers are short answer (often only one word). The answer booklet is provided on the day.

When do the students find out the categories?

The students find out the categories on their arrival at the heat.

What is the ‘Joker’ round?

The joker round is the round the team selects as the round they think they will do the best at before the start of the heat. The team will get double points for that round.

How many teams can a school enter?

Schools can enter up to three teams, space allowing in the nominated heat, but an additional team could be considered if space is available. In larger heats schools may have to be limited to two teams.

How long does a heat take?

Heats run for three hours with a break in the middle. Teams are asked to arrive 20 minutes before the heat to choose their Joker round and be ready to start right on time.

Do the students need to be in the same class or grade?

No, the students can be mixed age’s and grade’s.

Can a student enter one that more heat?

No, students can only enter one heat in a year.

Can a team enter with three students?

Yes, a team can still enter with three students.
